Ilchi Lee: Interview Part 2

-Ilchi Lee

b & b: What is the purpose of Ilchi Academy?
Dr. Ilchi Lee: I wish to share the peace, joy, and inspiration that spring forth from my heart and brain with as many people as possible. The Internet can be used for this purpose. Last summer, I toured across the entire United States and Canada to deliver Healing Chakra training to approximately 2,000 members. Through the Internet I can meet thousands of members simultaneously.

Ilchi Academy is a school, but rather than being a school for learning, it is a school for communication. I do not wish to teach, but to effectively communicate. Communication is the art of information delivery. I have been a communicator of Truth for the last twenty years. Truth is also information. Therefore, I have always been searching for methods that can most effectively communicate Truth to as many people as possible. Dahnhak is one. Brain Respiration is another. Dahnhak and Brain Respiration are methods through which people can experience the universal Truth and peace through bodily exercises and meditation. Dahnhak and Brain Respiration are powerful tools because they help people experience these truths themselves.

In a real sense, Dahnhak and Brain Respiration are methods used to communicate the Truth to one's own self. Until now, we have used internet technology and communication mostly for entertainment and commerce. Through Ilchi Academy, I want to bring these same technologies and innovations to the work of communicating the Truth. Let's use the Internet to help people realize the Truth about themselves, their true potential, and their true spirituality. Let Ilchi Academy be the place where people can be guided to realize their own soul.

b & b: How does Ilchi Academy differ from other institutions of learning, online or otherwise?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: In order to lead a truly successful life, a person needs three things in life. First, you have to learn how to become a master of your own life. Second, you need to acquire the intellectual knowledge that will help you make way in this world. Third, you need to learn a marketable skill. There are many schools, both on and off-line, teaching us to achieve the latter two aspects of living. However, there is no school that teaches us the first and the most important part of life. We are the masters of our own lives. We are the master of our bodies and brains. However, to realize this mastery and live according to this mastery takes time and training. What do we need to really live our lives as masters of our bodies and life? What do we really need to live as human beings ought to live? How do we live to the fullest of our potential as human beings? These are the “human questions” that we seek to ask and answer at Ilchi Academy.

b & b: What can people expect to find at Ilchi Academy?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: You may be asked to do a certain number of pushups everyday. You could be asked to do other normal, ordinary things. However, each part of the curriculum supports a very specific purpose. The point is to train your body, mind, and brain to realize that YOU are the MASTER of your own life. Ultimately, this realization is what Brain Respiration and Dahnhak is all about. Ilchi Academy will not be didactic. Ilchi Academy will push you to experience for yourselves the enlightenment that is within you.

I compare Ilchi Academy to an incubator. An incubator for enlightenment and the growth of consciouness. I am trying to make a system that guarantees the growth of one's soul once s/he steps inside this incubator. The question lies in how strong of a will do members have to take action and put the things they learn into practice.

b & b: What is the reason behind asking Ilchi Academy students to do pushups?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: I do not teach pushups. Everybody already knows how to do pushups. But how many people do not do them despite the fact that they know it is good for their health? The important thing is not teaching people how to do pushups but to create an environment that makes people do pushups. Through pushups we can expand our ability to achieve our goals. Once we decide on a goal—even though many obstacles may come up in the process of achieving it—if we keep going without giving up, we grow. By doing pushups, you not only build your muscles, but you build your mind power too. When you decide upon something truly, your brain will know and it will do everything it can to support you in your endeavor. I recommend pushups so that you may experience knowing what you truly want and making this happen through the body.

b & b: What are the qualifications to enroll in Ilchi Academy?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: First, you must have a brain. I say this because most of us live without being truly aware of the brain within us. We live without a sense of the amazing potential that we hold inside our brains. However, we are who we are because of our brains. Therefore, if you are not aware of the brain, you cannot be aware of who you are or could be. This is a question about our identity, about the relationship between you and your body, you and your consciousness, you and your mind, and finally you and the information that you have inside the brain. This is the first thing you will learn at Ilchi Academy.

Second, you must want to be better… go further as a human being. If you have ever asked the question, “Who am I?” or “Why am I here?” then you are a perfect candidate for this school. All students at Ilchi Academy will be asked to live by one motto: No Action, No Creation. Intellectual understanding means nothing when it is not translated into action. Only through action, you will create a new you, new society, and new world.

b & b: How do you wish that members grow at Ilchi Academy?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: I made Ilchi Academy to help people become healers. The healing that I am talking about is not difficult. It is not something you have to study for years. Healing involves healing another person's weakness with compassion. Everybody has a weakness. If we all have the heart to bandage that weakness instead of throw stones at it, the world would be healed. If you care for another's wounds, don't you think that person will stop throwing stones and care for you in turn? This is the beginning. It is very simple. However, you might be hesitant and worried about taking the first step. This is why you must have courage to be a healer. Light your own light first. The other person will follow.

b & b: Do you have anything else you would like to say to the readers of the inaugural issue of body & brain magazine?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: Many people think that I am a special person. They put a mysterious aura around me. However, we are all human beings, and human beings are not that different from each other. There are times when I feel sad, lonely, and afraid. Like anybody else. I make mistakes and feel stress and tension. I can overcome these because I have a vision. I can overcome anything because I am One with the Cosmic Energy (Chunjikiwoon). This is not knowledge. This is not a skill. There is no Truth to learn.

This is why I say Dahnhak and Brain Respiration are not things you learn. It's something you accept and recognize. I hope that Ilchi Academy helps you find your way toward the completion of the soul. Fulfillment of yourself as a human being. A wise man once said that you have to overcome to become. I would like to add to that: you have to accept to understand. Allow yourself to open up. I wish for you to walk this spiritual path not for your personal peace of mind and enlightenment but for the peace and happiness of all. It is only with this wider perspective that meditation and training becomes valuable and can help the growth of your soul. I wish to meet you at Ilchi Academy

Ilchi Lee: Founder of Brain Respiration

Ilchi Lee: Interview

According to inventor Thomas Edison, genius is “one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.” In speaking with Dahnhak founder Dr. Ilchi Lee, you may deduce a similar formula for Enlightenment: one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent communication. While inspiration is crucial, it is Dr. Lee's commitment to sharing the path of Enlightenment that makes his vision of Healing Society possible.

Dr. Ilchi Lee views the Internet as the most compelling medium for communication yet, so it is no surprise that he has established a place on the web where he can leverage this power to share his vision—and his inspiration—with more of humanity than ever before.

As the founder of Dahnhak and Brain Respiration, Dr. Ilchi Lee's typical day begins with a meditation session at 3:00am. A time of deep self-observation without thoughts, expectations, or judgments, he calls this time “Mu-Shim-Jung-Kwan.” After the dawn meditation session, he turns on the computer to start slogging through the dozens of emails that he received through the night. After finishing with his email and checking the news on the internet, he sinks into a deep contemplation once more to receive his inspiration for the day.

This past January, he achieved one of his long time goals of establishing an online school for the advancement of human spirit and consciousness. This school is called, Ilchi Academy.” So far, Ilchi Academy boasts a student body of 15,000 students from all over the world. We spoke with Dr. Ilchi Lee to hear his dreams and hopes for Ilchi Academy.

body & brain: Were you always interested in the Internet?

Dr. Ilchi Lee: Although I am always interested in new and innovative things, I am not an Internet expert. I am not interested in the technological details of the Internet revolution. I am interested in the information delivering power of the Internet and how it can be harnessed to propel a forward evolution in the collective human consciousness. Information is the key. Our patterns of thoughts and behaviors are a direct product of the information inside our brains.

To change how we act then, we must first change the information inside our brains for this will lead to direct changes in our action. How does one change the information that people are carrying inside their heads? By helping each individual experience a more powerful, higher quality information that resonates within them in an experiential and visceral way. Only information can overwrite previous information. Giving information back and forth, this is communication.
